Issue:

Collective Bargaining Agreement.

Superintendent's Recommendation:

Approve/ratify Comprehensive Tentative Agreement for the Successor Agreement for the 2021-2024 contract between the Sweetwater Union High School District and the California School Employees Association (CSEA), Chapter 258, the exclusive representative of the operations-support services bargaining unit; Chapter 471, the exclusive representative of the office-technical and business services bargaining unit; and Chapter 731, the exclusive representative of the paraprofessional bargaining unit.



Analysis:

On November 15, 2021, CSEA and the district reached a Comprehensive Tentative Agreement for the Successor Agreement through the 2023-2024 school year.  The agreement includes:

 

  • An off-schedule salary increase of four percent (4%) covering the period of January 1, 2022, to June 30, 2022.
  • Reopeners on salary for the 2022-2023 and 2023-2024 school year and the Health and Welfare Benefits Article on or about June 1, 2022, and June 1, 2023.
  • Effective January 1, 2022, the district’s maximum contribution to the benefits cap increases by $1,000, from $14,130, to $15,130.
  • Revisions in contract language that brought probationary periods in line with new legislation and acknowledges parental leave laws.
  • Addition of Juneteenth as a holiday for impacted employees. 

 

This Board Agenda Item supports LCAP Goal 4, coherent and transparent systems, because it supports district needs while maintaining fiscal responsibility in approaching total compensation that recognizes the district’s current local, state and federal economic realities.
