Last month, Bonita Vista High School and Bonita Vista Middle School were targeted by vandals; hateful graffiti with antisemitic, racist, homophobic and misogynistic slurs and images were scrawled across the buildings on each campus. Though the dedicated team members of the district’s maintenance and operations division quickly mobilized to remove the vile spray painting, the hurt caused by the hate is indelible.
The district, in alignment with its numerous policy and regulations including Board Policy 0410 – Nondiscrimination in District Programs and Activities/Title IX and Board Policy 4030 – Nondiscrimination in Employment, is committed to maintaining programs and activities that are free from discrimination, harassment, intimidation and bullying based on gender, race, color, religion, ancestry, national origin, ethnic group identification, physical or mental disability, sexual orientation or immigration status. As such, this resolution affirms the district’s stance against bigotry, racism, homophobia, misogyny, antisemitism and all forms of oppression.
This resolution represents the collaboration of students and community members working with district leadership.
This Board Agenda Item supports LCAP Goal 2, safe and healthy learning environment, because it promotes cultural proficiency and affirms that district schools must be safe places for all students.
