Issue:

Career Technical Education (CTE) Stakeholders Advisory Committee.

Superintendent's Recommendation:

Approve/ratify the Career Technical Education (CTE) Stakeholders Advisory Committee to reflect the 2021-2022 school year.

Analysis:

Board Agenda Item G-4 was approved by the board of trustees on May 10, 2021, indicating school year 2020-2021.  CTE is seeking approval to correct the school year to 2021-2022, to ensure correct information is provided and to be in compliance with Federal Program Monitoring.

 

Board Policy 6178 states that the board shall appoint a Career Technical Education (CTE) Advisory committee to develop recommendations on the district’s CTE program and to serve as a liaison between the district and potential employers.

 

As suggested by the board of trustees, stakeholders from represented industry sectors were recommended to serve on the Advisory Committee for the 2021-2022 school year:

 

Hector Martinez – Civil Engineer for HM Construction

Christina Marquez – Outreach Coordinator for ETI-San Diego & Imperial Counties

Kendra Brandstein – Director of Scripps Mercy Hospital Chula Vista Community Programs and San Diego Border AHEC

Leslie Hermann – Director of Marketing and Community Relations for Southwest Sports Wellness Foundation

Leslie Wisdom – Program Coordinator for the San Diego Imperial County Regional Consortium

Steve Stopper – CEO at Americas Finest Sound

Michael McSweeney – General Contractor

Christine Jensen - K12 Pathway Coordinator for the Southwestern College CCD

Yessenia Olvera – Outreach Technician at Southwestern College

Jennifer Lewis – Dean Continuing Education and Workforce Development Southwestern College

Nancy Castro Nieto - Counselor

Joseph Amaro – CTE Teacher

Ivan Rubio – CTE Teacher

Nicole Kranzberg – CTE Teacher

Debbie Nevin – VAPA Teacher

Jeff Kover – Director of College and Career Readiness and Visual and Performing Arts

Beatriz Espeleta – SUH Student

Yolanda Contreras – SUHSD Parent

 

This Board Agenda Item supports LCAP Goal 1, teaching and learning, because it increases support and training for CTE Teachers from business professionals in the community.
