Issue:

Career Technical Education (CTE) Stakeholders Advisory Committee.

Superintendent's Recommendation:

Approve the Career Technical Education (CTE) Stakeholders Advisory Committee and appoint members to the committee for the 2023-2024 school year.

Analysis:

Board Policy 6178 states that the board shall appoint a Career Technical Education (CTE) Advisory committee to develop recommendations on the district’s CTE program and to serve as a liaison between the district and potential employers.

 

As suggested by the board of trustees, stakeholders from represented industry sectors were recommended for service on the Advisory Committee:

 

1.    Alfredo Cendejas, Sweetwater Union High School District (SUHSD) Counselor on Special Assignment

2.    Anibal Alcaraz, Production Manager at Energy Communications

3.    Brahim Wahib, SUHSD Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts and Math (STEAM) Coordinator

4.    Christina Marquez, Environmental Organizer at IBEW Local 569

5.    Christine Jensen, Director, K-16 Collaborative for the Border Region Talent Pipeline

6.    Deborah Nevin, SUHSD School for Creative and Performing Arts (SCPA) Facilitator

7.    Harry Muns, Chula Vista Fire Chief

8.    Ivan Rubio, SUHSD Engineering Teacher

9.    Director (pending approval), SUHSD Director of College and Career Readiness and Visual and Performing Arts

10. Jennifer Lewis, Southwestern Community College (SWC) Dean for Continuing Education and Workforce Development

11. Joseph Amaro, SUHSD CTE Teacher/Robotics Coordinator

12. Kendra Brandstein, Scripps Director of Community Programs

This Board Agenda Item supports LCAP Goal 1, teaching and learning, because it increases support and training for Career Technical Education Teachers from business professionals in the community.
