Board Item - G.-2. |
| | | | | | | | Issue:
Revision of fiscal impact of the OverDrive Education Memorandum of Understanding.
Superintendent's Recommendation:
Approve revision of the fiscal impact of the Memorandum of Understanding with OverDrive Education and the Sweetwater Union High School District (SUHSD) for digital reading platform for schools’ libraries during the 2020-2021 school year.
Analysis:
This Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) was approved by the board of trustees on December 14, 2020, Board Agenda Item G-7. The item’s fiscal impact indicated that its expenditure would not exceed $20,000, to be paid by LCAP Funds. The revision to this MOU is reflected in the fiscal impact. Each site may have the need to spend up to $20,000, and may use various budget sources.
The MOU will provide access to Sora, a student reading app by OverDrive that will be accessible to all SUHSD students. It is the leading digital reading platform for libraries and schools. Sora is the quickest and easiest way for students to read ebooks and audiobooks virtually on any device. The Sora app allows leisure and class assigned reading. Students will be able to borrow and return books. All SUHSD libraries will customize their school’s digital library with purchased titles to support curriculum and independent reading goals. With this app, district librarians will be able to purchase ebooks and titles that support curriculum. In addition, students will be able to bookmark, take notes, highlight, and adjust font type including dyslexic font. Sora also allows students to sync between devices so they can pick up right where they left off.
This Board Agenda Item supports LCAP Goal 1, teaching and learning, because it provides resources and support to improve literacy for students to prepare them for college and career.
